Emily Joye comes to us from Riverside, California. She earned her BA in Religion and Philosophy
(Magna Cum Laude) from Catawba College in 2004 and her Master of Divinity degree from
Pacific School of Religion in 2008. At her graduation from seminary Emily Joye was honored
with the Koinania Award which is presented to graduating students who have demonstrated
academic excellence, enriched the spiritual and social life of the community, and served the school
through active participation in campus life.
Since her graduation, Emily Joye has completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education serving as
resident chaplain at Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System where she served at the
National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder providing pastoral care and spiritual support
to veterans and their families. Emily Joye worked at San Francisco Safe House, planning and
leading weekly spirituality groups in a transitional housing facility for women leaving prostitution.
She served as Director of Youth and Community Mission Director at First Congregational Church
of Riverside and Director of Senior High Program at Pilgrim Pines Camp and Conference Center.
Her hobbies include Tai Chi, kickboxing, dance, music, meditation, art (especially collage),
reading and writing poetry, reading and writing in general, spoken word, being in the outdoors
and building relationships of substance.
