Guatemala Mission Team

For the past 5 years members from First Congregational Church have participated in mission trips to Guatemala. Some trips provided health care for those who have no access to medical services. Some trips built storage tanks to catch rainwater so people don't have to walk long distances to get water and then carry it back to their homes. In the last few years stoves have been installed to replace the open pit fires for cooking. The stoves vent the smoke outside, prevent burns from falling into an open fire, and are more efficient in burning wood.

On January 27th 2007, 13 members and friends traveled to Guatemala to install stoves in the small village of Uspantan. On this trip 30 indoor and 30 outdoor stoves were installed over three days and part of another day was spent in an elementary school doing art projects with the children.

Various school supplies, teacher resource packages, books, T-shirts, and games were delivered. The 'library' in one classroom visited in 2005 consisted of one 3-shelf bookcase and about 15 books for a classroom of 40 children. So any supplies were greatly appreciated.

Our next trip is planned for the fall of 2008. Support from our church is directing affecting the lives of Guatemalans in need. Thank you for your generosity and your prayers.
