Heifer Mission TeamThe Heifer Mission Team received "new life" through the combined efforts of the Christian Education and Outreach Committees in a 2007 Lenten focus for the church school and congregation. The curriculum focus in the Rotation Model for the first through sixth graders during Lent, 2007, was learning about the Heifer Project. The Outreach Committee promoted Heifer International to the congregation through articles, announcements in worship, and the blessing of a live heifer in the sanctuary before a worship service. Heifer Project banks and calendars were distributed to church school children and members to enhance their Lenten journeys and to encourage their making contributions to the project. The Easter offering was designated for Heifer International. Members of the committees and the mission team have promoted buying an animal or a share of an animal as a gift in honor of a family member or friend. The church school children will decide what animals to buy with undesignated funds that have been donated. The Heifer Mission team plans to continue its efforts in keeping the congregation informed of this vital project that addresses hunger and poverty issues around the world. |
