Our MembershipOur membership is a diverse community of people of all ages. Some families have three generations attending worship and participating in all levels of activities. There are retired persons who attend regularly while in Michigan during the mild weather, but winter in warmer states. There are those who are in worship virtually every Sunday, and volunteer year round in activities and events that claim their interest and expertise. There are single persons, divorcees, and married couples; broken, blended, extended, and nuclear families. Many people are career and family oriented, yet they are active in church clubs, committees, mission teams, and more. Some of our members are true community leaders, active in their profession, but also trustees and members of school boards, city councils and societies for the arts. Many retired people stay in Battle Creek all year and continue to work and give back generously to the community. Some of our members have special needs. These persons attend worship regularly, and contribute in their own way. Besides adults, there are several differently-abled children in the church family. They add significantly to the atmosphere of acceptance and inspiration. Many people have commented on how special these people are to them, and how they have come to enrich their spirituality, and church experience. We are writers, teachers, lawyers, accountants, kids, doctors, nurses, domestic engineers, real estate agents, employees, retirees, therapists, job searchers, artists, acquaintances, musicians, builders, pastors, sports fans, students, women, pharmacists, retailers, farmers, seniors, insurance agents, financiers, plumbers, landscapers, contractors, secretaries, custodians, babies, believers, cooks, volunteers, managers, police officers, gardeners, cheerleaders, electricians, men, architects, military personnel, friends, helpers, bookworms, receptionists, dancers, librarians, teenagers, lay liturgists, and ministers... We like to have hay rides, dances, baptisms, dinners, painted faces, family time, coffee and juice, ice cream and pizza, movies, discussions, recreation, lock-ins, fulfillment, work, communion, Christmas caroling, fun, weddings, faith festivals, breakfasts, prayers, Bible and book studies, committee meetings, art shows, silent moments, cookouts, agendas, fund-raisers, games, popcorn, pig roasts, worship, concerts, mission teams and any other reason we can think of to celebrate in Christian Fellowship. We are also dedicated to upholding traditional rituals and rites of passage. We are committed to supporting each other, and observing the church liturgical year. Through our worship services we incorporate the essentials of Christ-centeredness. We hold to a strong tradition, detailed in the church's history. Times of crisis and need, such as funerals and hurricane devastation, are occasions to show our support to our extended church family and the larger world. We pursue our ministries seriously, and endeavor to improve the conditions of all people. Our members are individuals with varying beliefs and callings, which guide them in choosing ministries and missions that provide tangible and intangible goods and services to the local as well as global communities. All members are encouraged to answer a call to serve in one area or another. A large part of discerning the will of God in our lives is to find a service outlet. There are many to choose from here, and acting on our motto "I, Too, Minister Here" is a commitment and a privilege. As a further mission, we are developing a new worship experience, AWEstruck, to include greater technology, contemporary music, and a casual but reverent atmosphere. We are hoping to reach a broader section of our community when launch-time is reached. |
